Searching for that perfect hair loss product is a journey filled with a number pitfalls and disappointments for some. For others finding that perfect hair loss product will be an exciting time.

The first step and perhaps the most important is to determine and isolate the cause. For instance excessive hair loss can be caused by medical problems, such as alopecia areata (a non-hormone related immune disorder affecting about two percent of the population) and thyroid disorders. Hair loss can also be caused by high fever, surgery, and especially chemotherapy for cancer. Crash dieting or poor nutrition can cause hair to weaken, thin, and appear unhealthy. The 800 pound gorilla in the room is androgenetic alopecia and finding the perfect hair loss product becomes far more complicated (and unpredictable) due to its progressive nature. The condition itself is driven by the hair loss hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and is thought to be inherited. Androgenetic alopecia will not reverse itself without some type of treatment, thus taking swift action may make the difference between being able to keep your hair for many years to come and going completely bald.
Part of the reason for this is that by the time the condition is recognized a great deal of damage has already occurred.
This is perhaps the most important fact in this article! The reason is that there are many treatments which work well at protecting healthy hair from the ravages of DHT but even the most renowned are only able to re-grow new hair about 30 percent of the time. And of this 30 percent much of the hair re-growth can be subpar. So perhaps the best hair product may not be a product at all but early recognition.
The most effective hair product currently on the market is the FDA approved drug minoxidil. Minoxidil works by enlarging follicles, extending the hairs lifespan, and stimulating dormant hairs to spring to life. It is safe for both men and women and when used topically twice a day has been shown to be quite effective in early stage balding. The downside is that once discontinued any benefit will be lost, and balding will resume.
What Next? There are currently a handful of hair re-growth products (specially formulated for both men and women) which have been proven effective both in blocking harmful hormones and bringing the all important dead hair follicles back to life. These specially formulated treatments can be used both as a preventative tool, starting before hair loss becomes severe, or after loss of hair has become noticeable. Whatever the level of balding or thinning you are experiencing these products could be just what is needed to overcome this latest life challenge.
